Service Schedule Definitions -
Progressive Wear
DESCRIPTION
WEAR - a normally occurring condition of
a part that moves and/or is in contact with
another part, a wire rope or some abrasive
material. The particular stage of wear is
important when deciding if a part can con-
tinue to be used normally and safely.
723692-1 Service Manual New Yorker SC Series Electric Revision A Issue Date: - 2021-May-10
ASSUMPTION
1. Wear items have some expected life
span before replacement is necessary.
2. Generally this life span would not be
shorter than three years or could also be
measured by running time of a hoist in
hours, possibly 50-80 hours of use.
3. Wear begins the very moment that the
hoist accepts a wire rope and continues
over time.
4. Wear is affected by environmental con-
ditions, load being lifted, quality, type and
construction of the wire rope, quality and
materials of the parts that contact the wire
rope.
5. Wear is gradual, when predictable and
reasonable use is a known condition.
6. Wear is accelerated when contaminants
such as sand or other foreign debris accu-
mulates.
7. With the above assumptions being true,
it is reasonable to conclude that wear
items would not be changed out during
the first 3 years of hoist operation without
some form of abuse or contaminant.
