    Note configure the limit and home inputs themselves as active-high or active-low. You must configure the limit and home inputs separately on the National Instruments motion controller using MAX or the NI-Motion driver software. This DIP switch does not need to be configured when the UMI-7772/7774 is used with the NI SMD-7620/7621 stepper drives.

    8A fast acting fuse. The SMD-7621 contains an internal 3.5A fast acting fuse. If an external fuse is desired, National Instruments recommends a 6A fast acting fuse for the SMD-7620 and a 3 amp fast acting fuse for the SMD-7621 version.

  • Page 18 Touch a metal part on the chassis to discharge any static electricity that might be on your clothes or body. Static electricity can damage the controller. Insert the PXI controller into the chosen slot. Use the injector/ejector handle to fully secure the device into place.

    10. Wait for installation to complete, then click Finish. 11. Expand the Devices and Interfaces item under the PXI system. 12. Right-click the remote motion controller icon and select Map to Local Machine. This assigns a local board ID to the remote motion controller in the host system. Mapping the remote controller into the local system allows you to configure the controller through MAX exactly as you would a controller that is in the host system.

    Step 3: Connect the Drive Enable Signal to the UMI-7764 Complete the following steps to connect the Drive Enable signal, which controls the enable function of the drive: Connect the X3/EN- terminal (pin 6) to the Motion I/O terminal block INHOUT1 terminal. Connect the X3/EN+ terminal (pin 5) to the Motion I/O +5V terminal.

    Step 7: Connect the SMD-7620/7621 to the Motor Do not connect or disconnect the motor with the power on. Caution NI offers NEMA 23 and NEMA 34 stepper motors matched to the SMD-7620/7621. When connecting these motors to the SMD-7620, connect them in parallel as shown in Figure 18. Motor wire colors are correct for NI stepper motors compatible with the Note NI SMD-7620/7621.

    Step 9: Power on the Drive and Verify Connections After all hardware connections have been made complete the following steps to confirm the hardware setup. Turn on all power supplies and apply AC power. Verify that the Drive Status LED on the NI SMD-7620/7621 flashes or is solid green. Figure 10 shows the location of the Drive Status LED.

Set the limit and home input active state depending on which NI UMI you are using. This prevents the limit active error from occurring when no limits are connected.
