REFRIGERATION COMPONENTS Mueller CP2 compact chillers are designed to operate with two Mueller 5-horsepower E-Star HiPerForm “HPF/ ESE” condensing units for maximum performance and efficiency. Refer to the E-Star HiPerForm “HPF/ESE” condensing unit manuals for technical information. EVAPORATOR The Mueller compact chiller uses two totally enclosed, heavy-duty, stainless steel evaporators to provide years of trouble-free operation when properly installed and controlled.
ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS The Mueller compact chiller has a complete electrical control system. The electronic temperature control is housed in a separate enclosure. The multi-stage chiller control must be mounted and wired to the flow switches, condensing units, temperature sensors, and pump. All wiring must be performed in accordance with the regulatory agency for the installation locality.
Section 3.0 – Installation INSPECTION Because it is possible for equipment damage to occur during shipment, Paul Mueller Company requires inspecting all equipment before unloading it from the freight truck. Carefully inspect the equipment for hidden damage. It may be difficult to collect for damage if it is not found prior to unloading. It is important to note any damage on the bill of lading and have the driver sign it.

• Efficiency: Locate the chiller as close as possible to the Mueller Accu-Therm plate cooler. This will improve efficiency by reducing heat gain and flow restrictions in the chilled liquid solution piping. CHILLED SOLUTION PIPING The piping between the compact chiller and the Accu-Therm plate cooler should be a minimum of 3-inch Schedule-40 or -80 PVC, stainless steel, or copper pipe.
IMPORTANT: The circulation of controlled warm water or a completely drained evaporator is mandatory during pump-down or refrigerant recovery to eliminate evaporator damage due to freezing. Mueller Compact Chiller, Models CP2-10 and CP2-20 Effective December 21, 2011 Installation and Operation Manual, Part No. 8826880...
IMPORTANT: Never use chlorine as a bacteria inhibitor or cleaning agent as it will cause premature failure of the evaporator and plates within the remote, secondary plate cooler. A food-grade inhibitor, methylparaben, Part No. 9841027, is available from Paul Mueller Company. The water quality must meet the following standards: •...
IMPORTANT: A refractometer designed for testing the freeze point of propylene glycol solutions should be used to determine the actual freeze point of the solution. Please contact Paul Mueller Company’s Service Department for assistance in locating a supplier of propylene glycol refractometers.
NOTE: Energize crankcase heaters and allow a minimum of four hours of operation before a compressor startup. Ensure all service valves are open to avoid over-pressurization of system components. Mueller Compact Chiller, Models CP2-10 and CP2-20 Effective December 21, 2011 Installation and Operation Manual, Part No.
If the known product temperature does not correspond with the temperature display, the temperature control will require a calibration correction. Refer to Section 9 for sensor calibration. Measurements were performed by a third party. SOUND MEASUREMENT Maximum recorded noise levels for this machine were recorded at less than 70 dB(A). Mueller Compact Chiller, Models CP2-10 and CP2-20 Effective December 21, 2011 Installation and Operation Manual, Part No. 8826880...
ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS The Mueller multi-stage chiller control requires a 208 V/240 V/277 V power supply, fused at 20 amps maximum, or a 380 V/480 V power supply, fused at 10 amps maximum. A lockable disconnect is provided in accordance with CE Standard EN60947-3.
When sensors are installed in pipes discharging into a reservoir, Mueller recommends the sensors be installed in the six o’clock position. Care must be taken to never deform the sensor housing as damage to the enclosed circuit board could result. Mueller does not recommend the use of copper compression fittings on the digital temperature sensor.
FIELD WIRING The Mueller multi-stage chiller control may be wired to provide 24-VAC output, dry switch closures, or any combination of the two. Please refer to the following diagrams for wiring procedures. FLOW SWITCH AND REMOTE SWITCH WIRING The Mueller multi-stage chiller control is designed for operation with a normally open (NO) flow switch and a remote switch. The NO flow switch is an optional programmable feature, although installation is highly recommended (see Section 9.2 for flow switch programming).
Section 9.0 – Multi-Stage Chiller Control Programming PROGRAMMING OVERVIEW The Mueller multi-stage chiller control is field programmable to allow for installation on most chiller systems utilizing one to ten independent stages. Each stage has a programmable setpoint temperature, differential, operation mode, and anti-short cycle feature; as well as being able to monitor one of two system temperatures.
Energizes on temperature decrease. 0 Min. Anti-Short Cycle (ASC) Parameter Code: Sensor A, chilled water supply. Sensor B, chilled water return. Mueller Compact Chiller, Models CP2-10 and CP2-20 Effective December 21, 2011 Installation and Operation Manual, Part No. 8826880 Revised June 7, 2023...
Once this delay expires, any breaking of the flow switch for longer than one second will cause the alarm light on the front panel to light and the alarm output relay to close as well as all Cool mode stages to open. Mueller Compact Chiller, Models CP2-10 and CP2-20 Effective December 21, 2011 Installation and Operation Manual, Part No.
NOTE: There is a four-second delay when the pump is energized or de-energized before flow switch monitoring is active to allow the flow of chilled solution to close the switch or open the switch. Mueller Compact Chiller, Models CP2-10 and CP2-20 Effective December 21, 2011 Installation and Operation Manual, Part No.
Section 11.0 – Chiller Maintenance 11.1 GENERAL The Mueller CP2 compact chiller requires minimal maintenance. It is recommended that a knowledgeable service technician perform the following scheduled maintenance procedures on an annual basis: Check the glycol level to ensure adequate chilled water solution levels.
Section 12.0 – Disposal 12.1 GENERAL If the Mueller CP2 compact chiller is removed for resale or disposal, ensure the materials, refrigerant, and oils are handled and/or disposed of according to applicable codes and regulations. 12.2 REFRIGERANT The Mueller CP2 compact chiller contains R-507 hydrofluorocarbon, which has zero ozone depletion potential.
Technicians handling refrigerants should wear side-shielded safety glasses, impervious (preferably butyl-lined) gloves, and other protective equipment or clothing as required by the situation.
