3.7 Air Cleaner Service/Replacement (32-40EKOZD/28-35EFKOZD Models)

A dry-type air cleaner silences and filters the intake air. The air cleaner is housed inside the resonator box. At the interval
specified in the service schedule, clean or replace the air filter element. Clean the filter more frequently if the generator set
operates in dirty, dusty conditions. See Figure 36 and follow the procedure below.

Air Filter Service/Replacement
1.
Press the generator set OFF/RESET button to shut down the generator set.
2.
Disconnect the power to the battery charger, if equipped.
3.
Disconnect the generator set engine starting battery, negative (-) lead first.
4.
Remove the four screws to remove the air intake cover and gasket.
5.
Remove the air filter element.
6.
Tap the element lightly against a flat surface to dislodge loose surface dirt. Do not clean with any liquid or use
compressed air as these will damage the filter element.
7.
Examine the element, gasket, and housing for damage and wear. Replace the element or gasket, if necessary.
8.
Wipe the cover and resonator box with a clean rag to remove any dirt. Make sure that the gasket seals correctly and
reattach the cover and screws.
9.
Check that the generator set is OFF.
10. Reconnect the generator set engine starting battery, negative (-) lead last.
11. Reconnect the power to the battery charger, if equipped.
