NOTE:
a) All wall sleeves used to mount the new air conditioner must be
in sound structural condition and the rear grille should be secure-
ly attached to the unit or unit as the instructions recommend.
b) If wall sleeve used is not the recommended Friedrich USC
sleeve, ensure the dimensions are suitable for the installation.
c) Any wall sleeve used needs to be securely fastened to the wall;
ensure all sleeve installation instructions are followed to com-
pletion. Any existing sleeve should be inspected to ensure it is
securely fastened.
2. If preparing a new sleeve, please follow the sleeve instructions
to ensure proper installation; Friedrich recommends using the
Friedrich USC sleeve for best performance. If using existing sleeve,
remove the old air conditioner from the wall sleeve and prepare the
wall sleeve as follows:
a. Clean interior (remove legacy gaskets and seals as necessary)
b. Examine the wall sleeve and ensure the sleeve is securely
fastened before installing. Add more fasteners as needed.
c. Touch up any wall sleeve area that is missing paint to help
prevent corrosion.
3. Remove the back grille
a. The old intake grille must be removed and replaced by the
UXAA (or optional alternate) detailed in this instruction.
b. Warning: When removing the grille, protect from falling by
securing with a leash. Loop strapping material through the grille
and secure tightly with a knot.
Holding the grille by the leash with one hand, the retaining screws
can then be removed and the grille can be brought in through the
front of the sleeve.
