Operational Life
The pellistors used in the Catalytic flammable gas sensor can suffer from a loss
of sensitivity when in the presence of poisons or inhibitors, e.g. silicones,
sulphides, chlorine, lead or halogenated hydrocarbons. The pellistors are poison
resistant to maximize the operational life of the Catalytic flammable sensor. A
typical operating life, subject to the presence of poisons/inhibitors is 36 months.
The NDIR (Infrared) flammable gas sensor is not be affected by the above-
mentioned poisons and therefore has a longer life span. A typical operating life
is 5 years.
Typical life of a toxic gas sensor is dependent on the application, frequency and
amount of gas exposure. Under normal conditions (3 monthly visual inspection
and 6 monthly test/recalibration), the RAEGuard 3 Oxygen and other toxic
sensors have an expected life equal to or greater than 24 months.
Refer to section 10 for sensor replacement procedures.
