4.2.3 Write-Protecting the Data Cartridge
All data cartridges have a write-protect switch to prevent accidental erasure of data. Before loading a
data cartridge into your tape drive, make sure to position the write-protect switch on the front of the
data cartridge as desired.

Slide the switch to the right to write-protect the data cartridge. A "locked"
icon appears on the switch indicating that the data cartridge is write-protected.
Slide the switch to the left to allow your tape drive to write data to the data
cartridge. The "unlocked" icon appears on the switch. The indicator on the top
of the data cartridge also points to the appropriate icon, indicating the write-
protected status.
