    Chapter Before You Start Synology NAS RS822+/RS822RP+ is an enterprise server consisting of both system hardware and the software operating system, DiskStation Manager (DSM). This manual will guide you through all configuration aspects of your RS822+/RS822RP+, including the hardware components, setup procedures, and system maintenance.

    Safety Instructions Keep away from direct sunlight and away from chemicals. Ensure a stable environment with no abrupt changes in temperature or humidity. Place the unit right side up at all times. Keep the unit away from liquids. Before cleaning, unplug the power cord. Do not use chemical or aerosol cleaners. Wipe with damp paper towels.

    Please back up any important data before installation. • Rail mounting kit Warning: We suggest mounting your Synology NAS on a cabinet before installing any drives since the heavy weight will increase the installation difficulty. Install Drives Please follow the steps below for drive installation: 1 Pull out the drive tray handle in the direction as shown below.
  • Page 13 • For 2.5" drives: Place the drive in the drive tray. Flip the tray over and tighten screws into the four spots indicated below to secure the drive in place. 3 Insert the loaded drive tray into the empty drive bay and push it into position. Note: Make sure that the drive tray is completely inserted.

    Start up Your Synology NAS 1 Connect one end of each power cord to the power ports located on the back of your Synology NAS and the other end to a power outlet. 2 Connect at least one LAN cable to one of the LAN ports and the other end to your switch, router, or hub.

    2 Remove the top cover. 1 Remove the four screws on the top cover of your Synology NAS. 2 Slide open the top cover to the front-end of your Synology NAS, then lift it up and put it aside. Note: When you remove the top cover, sensitive internal components are exposed.
  • Page 16 Note: • Hold the memory module by its edges and avoid touching the gold connectors. • Synology will not provide full product warranty or technical support if a non-Synology memory module is used for memory upgrade. 5 Place the top cover back and slide it into secure position, then fasten the screws you removed in step 2.

    To remove the memory module 1 Follow step 1 to 2 of the "To install the memory module" section to shut down your Synology NAS, disconnect the cables, and remove the top cover. 2 Push the levers on both sides of the memory module outward. The memory module will be released from its slot.

    By pressing the Beep Off button, you can silence the long beep when it sounds. 2 On the rear panel, push the lever of the PSU inward as shown. 3 Pull the PSU out of your Synology NAS. 4 Prepare a new PSU. Insert it into the empty slot until you hear a click.
