Using the U3020AY03 with PNA-X Using the U3020AY03 with PNA-X Before switching on this instrument, make sure the supply voltage is in the specified range of the instrument. This instrument has auto-ranging line voltage input, be sure the supply voltage is within the specified range.
PNA-X are only characteristic and intended as non-warranted information. A functional certificate is provided for the Local Converter only. It is recommended that you return your instrument to Keysight Technologies for servicing or repair if the Local Converter and PNA-X performance exceed the operational verification limits. A periodic calibration is not required.
Operational Check Equipment Required The Keysight U3020AY03 requires that the user be familiar with the equipment and how to perform a full 2-Port calibration with the PNA-X. Table 7 Equipment List Description N5242A or E8364B Network Analyzer (50 GHz analyzer) RF cables (2.4 mm male connectors)
Operational Check Operational Check Procedure Install the instrument so that the detachable power cord is readily identifiable and is easily reached by the operator. The sequence of this procedure is very important and must be followed or the performance accuracy and results may vary from the reference plots provided. Ensure that the Local Converter is not connected to the PNA-X if you are performing a PNA-X Operator’s Check.

Figure 28 Shutter Stop The U3020AY03 contains an interlock attached to the inside of the top cover to protect the user in the event the fiber were to become severed from the connector or attenuator stop. Removal of the top cover will de-energize the instrument to standby and remove power from the Class 3R Laser.
Service Information Service Information The U3020A Y03 Local Converters contain a safety interlock to prevent removal of an instrument panel or cover, and allow the Class 3 laser to remain in operation should a fiber connection fail internal to the instrument. The interlock is arraigned internal to the instrument chassis and in positive contact with the instrument’s top cover.
Theory of Operation Theory of Operation The following is a description of the operation of the Local Converter. Reference the Local Converter block diagrams beginning on page 34. This section assumes the user has a general understanding of RF/microwave components. Electrical to Optical (E/O) Path The Local Converter PNA 1/2 SRC OUT amplifies and then modulates the PNA-X access port, Port 1 or Port 2 microwave/RF Source Out by a electrical to optical (E/O) modulator.
Theory of Operation Interface Board The Interface board (U3020-63139) provides the biasing for the amplifiers, optical modulators, lasers, optical detectors, and modulator, laser, and LED PCAs. Laser Board The Modulator Bias board (U3020-80016) provides the bias to the Laser (U3020-80015). Modulator Bias Board The Modulator Bias board (U3020-80017) provides the bias to the optical modulator (U3020-80014).
