Verify that filter FL2 is properly seated and soldered.
So far, most disc capacitors installed have been from your endless supply
of .1, .01 and .001 capacitors. If you have not done so already, now would be a
good time to sort and organize all your "picofarad" capacitors, ranging in value
from 2 to 100 pf. Correct selection of these values will be essential throughout
the RF stages of your transceiver.
CR10. Install C103, .01 uf disc capacitor (marked .01, or 103).
CR11. Install C10, .001 uf. (marked .001 or 102).
CR12. Install C15, 22 pf (marked 22).
CR13. Install C12, 120 pf (marked 120).
CR14. Select and install Y1, the 21.855 MHz. crystal. It must be snug on
the board before soldering. [Be sure not to confuse Y1 with Y2, the 10.240
MHz crystal which will set the Reference Frequency for the PLL
Synthesizer, or with FL1, which has 3 leads.]
CR15. Install L1, the 455 KHz shielded coil marked LB53303HK. Make
sure it is seated squarely on the board before soldering. Solder all pins.
CR16. Install C101, 10 uf electrolytic capacitor. Watch polarity!
Install the following resistors:
CR17. Install R6, 3.3K ohm (orange-orange-red).
CR18. Install R8, 470 ohm (yellow-violet-brown).
CR19. Install R2, 10K ohm (brown-black-orange).
CR20. Install R1, 220K ohm (red-red-yellow).
CR21. Install FL1, the 21.4 MHz IF filter. Its 3 wires may be inserted either
way; make sure its body is snug against the top of the board before
soldering.
CR22. Prepare three 8" lengths of hookup wire for connecting R13, the
10K Squelch Control. Strip back ¼" from one end of each wire. Tin all
ends. Wire the squelch pot as shown and solder the wires to the PC board
using the diagram as a guide.
CR23. Install R119, 270 ohm (red-
violet-brown).
CR24. Install C11, .01 uf disc
capacitor (marked .01 or 103).
CR25. Install D26, 6.2 volt zener
