Scheduled Maintenance

Following is a list of maintenance items which should be performed on a regular basis. These instruc-
tions supersede any previous maintenance instructions given in earlier bulletins.
To be performed a minimum of twice a year:
Inspect condenser and evaporator coils for dirt and dust and clean as necessary. These coils can be
cleaned with a vacuum cleaner, but be careful not to damage the fins with the vacuum attachment. The
coils may be cleaned with a commercial coil cleaning spray. DO NOT use a solvent containing bleach,
acetone or any flammable substances. Turn off power before cleaning. Be careful not to wet any of the
electrical components. Be sure the unit has dried completely before restarting the unit.
Inspect inside the evaporator and condenser blowers for dirt or dust. If necessary, use compressed air
to blow debris from the blower housing. Vacuum any residual debris from inside the ECU cabinet.
Check for dust or dirt inside controls cabinet. Blow with compressed air as necessary.
Check cabinet insulation of the ECU. Secure or replace any insulation found to be loose, missing
or damaged.
Check the gasket material between the ECU and the door for damage or deterioration. Replace as
necessary.
Check for loose or missing fastener on the unit.
Check for excessive noise or vibration of the unit.
Check the condensate drains. Make sure there is no obstruction in the pan or drain. If a commercial
drain cleaner is used, flush out the drain pan with fresh water to prevent corrosion.
Note 1: The blower motors have sealed ball bearings and do not require periodic lubrication.
Note 2: Always turn off the ECU units when working on the inside of the cabinet. Operating the unit
with the doors open loads the units excessively.
Note 3: It is not recommended that the refrigerant pressures be checked as part of a routine maintenance
program. Checking pressures requires the attachment of gauges and each time this is done, some
refrigerant is lost from the system. However, the pressures should be checked if a problem is suspected
with the refrigerant circuit, such as icing of the coil or repeated alarms due to low or high pressure.
Note 4: Maintenance may need to be performed more frequently based upon environmental conditions
at the installation site.
