Technical specification

The values for magnification and working distance marked on the loupes refer to normally-sighted or optically-corrected eyes ignoring accommodation. These values can vary depending on refractive error and accommodation. In general, if the examiner is short-sighted or tends to accommodate the actual working distance will be shorter. If long-sighted, it will be longer. If the working distance is shorter, the magnification will be stronger and vice versa.

Instructions

Before using your HEINE HR®/HRP®/HR-C® Binocular Loupes read these instructions carefully and keep them in a safe place for future reference.

Safety information

Range of applications: HEINE HR® Loupes are designed only for optical magnification during examinations and operations.

Safety in use: Do not look directly at the sun or into a powerful light source with the loupes to avoid the possibility of eye damage.
The angle of convergence of the eyepieces was set by the manufacturer (4). Do not alter this setting. This may only be adjusted by HEINE at the factory.

Assembly and use

How to fit HEINE binocular loupes with HEINE i-View® to the HEINE S-Frame®:
The HEINE i-View® allows you to select the angle of view of the loupes individually. This is done by means of a triple link system (5,6,7).

Swivelling the loupes:
The HEINE i-View® can be swivelled by hand as shown above. To do so, attach a steri-lever to one end of the optics mount. The loupes can be moved out of the line of sight by rotating the lever. This allows you to view the object without magnification and avoids the need to re-adjust the light.

How to fit HEINE binocular loupes with HEINE i-View® to the Professional L Headband with S-Guard splash protection
Unscrew the fixing screw (8) and the S-Guard can be moved vertically and horizontally. Fix the loupes with the fixing screw (8) as shown in Fig. in the desired position.

How to attach HEINE binocular loupes without HEINE i-View® to the HEINE S-Frame®

HEINE HR® Loupes can be fixed to the frame or other carrier system in three different positions:
B-I: horizontal
B-II: angled slightly down
A-II: as in B-II, but mounted 5 mm lower
Your loupe is fitted to one of the following carrier systems. The swivel attachment can be fitted to both the S-Frame and the Combi frame.

Professional Headband: Circumference and height can be adjusted by means of the two controls.

MD 1000 F.O. and 3S LED HeadLight: Attach the HEINE binocular loupes by means of the loupe adaptor or HEINE S-Guard® to the HeadLight. To do so, please consult the instructions supplied with the HEINE S-Guard®

Combi Frame: Adjust the length of the temples to suit your needs.

Adjustment

The HR Loupe should be adjusted very carefully to assure the best possible view.

To begin setting up proceed as follows:

  • Select the inter-pupillary distance (PD) or an average value on the scale (2): to do this, loosen the screws (3) and slide both eyepieces in or out until they are symmetrical.
  • Now try on the HEINE S-Frame® or headband and make sure that the eyepieces are horizontal and symmetrically-placed in front of your eyes.
  • Now look at a well-lit, three-dimensional object (not a text or similar) at the normal working distance and adjust the eyepieces so that you can see the object with both eyes in the middle of the field of view.
Horizontally – by varying the position of the eyepieces or, with the head band, by pushing it to one side or the other.
Vertically – by swivelling the adaptor or after having removed the loupe by selecting a different height adjustment.

The loupe is correctly adjusted when you see a round, shadow-free image.

  • Fix the eyepieces in place by re-tightening the screws (3).
  • When the swivel function of the HEINE i-View® (Z) is used the position of the joints X and Y should remain unchanged. If joints X and Y are unintentionally changed when the i-View is swivelled, tighten the screws X and Y with the screwdriver supplied with the instrument. Correct tightening will prevent any unintentional adjustment.

Accessories

HEINE binocular loupes without HEINE i-View®:

  • The angled adaptor is a screw-fit to the lowest setting on the mount and allows the eye-pieces to be angled downwards. This allows the operator to keep a more level head position even when looking down to operate close to his own body (does not apply to the MD 1000 F.O.).
  • The washable lens protectors are push-fit to the eyepieces.
  • The optional lights for the binocular loupes (LED LoupeLight) are described in the appropriate instructions.
  • Only for HR Binocular loupes.
  • The close-up lenses shorten the working distance from 340 to 250 mm and are a simple push-on fit.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Manual Cleaning

  • Before cleaning, remove the lens protectors.
  • Use a microfibre cleaning cloth when removing fingerprints from the optics.
  • Use a damp cloth when cleaning the housing and the optics (water, cleaning solutions with a neutral or mildly alkaline pH).
  • The loupes are water resistant and can be washed under running water.
  • If residues/dirt must be removed from the optics and/or the housing, use a soft brush.

  • Hard and/or metallic brushes and/or abrasive treatment mediums leadto scratches and therefore deterioration of the optics.

Manual Desinfection

  • Disinfection by means of spraying or wiping is permitted. Apply cleaning solu-tions that have been approved for medical devices made from plastic and glass
  • Apply isopropyl alcohol (only up to a maximum of 70% concentration).

Immersion disinfection, machine cleaning/disinfection, ultrasound cleaning and sterilisation are not permitted.

Cleaning the loupe mount HEINE i-View®

Use a micro-fiber cloth with a little alcohol or non-aggressive solution to clean the loupe mount.
