Installation
Installation requires the attachment of the module to the customers weld system via the M5 tapped
holes in the rear of the module (fig 1). Suitable extra flexible cable or braid should be attached to the
current connector attached to the main shaft. The size of the hole is 4.5mm suitable for an M4 screw.
Inflexible cables or joints will prevent the correct movement of the electrode holder carrier.
The electrode holder, current connector and insulating washer fit on the main shaft and are clamped
via the cap head screw on the side of the holder. Care must be taken when fitting the electrode holder
to ensure the shaft bearings are not overloaded and thereby damaged.
4.1.1
Main current cables
Use suitably rated conductor and keep leads as short as possible. Keep both leads close together to
avoid any inductive loops, which in severe cases could cause excessive back e.m.f, resulting in
damage to the welding power source.
When selecting cable for connection of the power supply to the welding head ensure the correct rating
is chosen. Small diameter cable will result in excessive voltage drop and may cause a fault condition.
As a guide a connecting cable of 50 sq.mm cross section has a voltage drop of approximately 0.45
volts per metre per 1000 amps, this excludes connections.
