V-BRAKE MAINTENANCE

A V-brake works by squeezing the wheel rim
between two brake pads. The friction on the
rim will make the bike stop.
A worn rim, brake pads or brake pads not
adjusted correctly will affect the ability to
brake. Always check your brakes before
riding to ensure they are in good condition.
If the line on the rim is not visible, then rim/
wheel needs changing.
Before riding, check that:
• The brake pads are in line with the rim.
• The distance from the brake pad to
the rim is equal on both sides.
• When pulling the brake lever, the
tension should be tight i.e. it should
not be possible to pull the brake lever
all the way to the handlebar.
