Setting up your computer Connecting to a power source Insert the battery pack into the battery compartment located at the rear of the computer: 1. Switch the battery lock 1 to the unlocked position. 2. Insert the battery pack into the battery compartment. 2 Note: Depending on the battery option you ordered, your battery may appear different from the figure.
Turning on the system Open the computer display. Slide the latches 1 and open the display 2 . Then position the display so that it is convenient for viewing. Press the power switch.

Using the TrackPoint ® The TrackPoint is a unique device for moving the cursor on the screen. You can perform all mouse operations with the TrackPoint. The left and right click buttons function like the left and right click buttons of a mouse.
Using the volume control You can adjust the sound level produced by the built-in speakers by using the following three buttons: v Volume down v Volume up: v Mute: – If the sound is muted when you turn off the computer, it remains muted when you turn the computer on again. –...

Your computer features the unique ThinkPad Button. Whenever you have a question about your computer, or wish to view IBM web sites, simply press the ThinkPad button to open Access ThinkPad. Access ThinkPad is the comprehensive, on-board help and information center for your computer.
Note: Use only a PC133 DIMM in your computer. If you install a DIMM that is not supported by your computer, the computer beeps, and the system does not start. You can purchase the appropriate memory option from your IBM reseller or IBM marketing representative.

If the DIMM is already in the memory slot, remove it to replace the new one by pressing out on the latches on both edges of the socket at the same time. Be sure to save it for future use. Find the notch on the side of the DIMM.

Turn the computer on. While the “Press F1 for IBM BIOS Setup Utility” message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility screen appears. The “Installed memory” item shows the total amount of memory installed in your computer.
