Quidway® NetEngine 40 Series Universal Switching Router System Architecture
The NE40 is made up of Route Switching Unit (SRU) and various types of Line Processing
Units (LPUs). Key components of the NE40 include route processing system, switching fabric
system, clock system, power module and management bus. They are all designed with
redundancy, which contributes to high system reliability. The interface types of LPUs include
Ethernet, E1/CE1, E3/T3, POS, CPOS, ATM, RPR and NAT.
The entire system is divided into three logical planes of forwarding plane, control plane and
monitoring plane. Forwarding is independent from control, and routing is irrelevant to
switching.
The data plane completes high-speed data packet processing and internal non-blocking
switching,
including
processing, QoS and packet scheduling, internal high speed switching and various
statistics.
The control and management plane completes system control and management
functions. It is the nerve center of the entire system. The control and management unit
completes functions such as protocol and signaling processing, system status
configuration and maintenance management as well as system status reporting and
control.
The monitoring plane independently completes system environment monitoring, including
voltage detection, system power on/off control, temperature detection and fan control to
ensure the safe and stable operation of the system. It isolates the fault in time when a unit
is faulty, thus guaranteeing the normal operation of the other system components.
