- Page 3 Under no circumstances should the ice be broken by smashing, as this may cause the fish great stress, and can injure or even kill them. PondMAX® Pond De-Icer is ideal for ponds up to 100 sq.ft. (9 sq.m.). For ponds with a greater surface area we recommend that two de-icers should be used, spaced well apart.
