Connecting the LAN Cable
The Enhanced PCI Ethernet interface has an 8-pin RJ-45 UTP
(unshielded twisted pair) connector jack for an unshielded "twisted-
pair" LAN cable connection.
A coaxial connection for thinLAN is available as an optional Coaxial
Adapter Board, D3979A. See the User's Guide supplied with the PC for
more information.
If you use the UTP connector, the coaxial connector is automatically
disabled.
If you use the coaxial connector, the UTP connector is automatically
disabled.
Attach the LAN cable as shown

CAUTION
Before installing the LAN cable, check that the building power
installation complies with IEC 364, or equivalent local code.
The LAN cable runs must not coincide with the path of lightning
conductors, and they should preferably be separated from the outside
surfaces of the building, especially roofing.
No maintenance work should be undertaken while there is a likelihood
of an outdoor section of the cable being struck by lightning.
Wherever possible, separate the LAN and power cable runs.
