DRAM Main Memory Modules The HP Vectra VE 4/xx has two sockets on the system board. 4 MB or 8 MB 32-bit memory is supplied as standard, expandable to 64 MB. Any memory module can be fitted in any socket. A specially configured model with 16 MB for users requiring additional memory is located with two 8 MB SIMMS (therefore no free memory slot).

Installing Cache Memory The HP Vectra VE 4/xx PC has a socket for an optional 256 KB second-level cache memory module. The upgrade kit (D2465A) is comprised of one 256 KB module (new accessory). To facilitate the installation of the cache memory module, first remove the heatsink from the processor (do not remove the processor).
Installing Video Memory The HP Vectra VE 4/xx PC is shipped with 1 MB of video memory which can be expanded to 2 MB for resolutions of up to 1280 x 1024 in 256 colors (for supported resolutions see “Video Controller”).

Changing Video Settings After Installing Upgrade Memory The video settings should be changed using the Video Mode icon in the HP User Tools window. If a DDC1 compatible display is used, the Plug and Play Display settings in the Setup program should be disabled to retain the specified settings.

Updating the System ROM The system ROM is updated by running the HPROMinit utility (supplied with BIOS upgrades). The utility is specific for the VE 4/xx, and can be obtained on diskette from HP dealers or sales offices. To update the system ROM, insert the diskette in drive A and restart the PC. Follow the instrcutions until the procedure has completed.
