Hayward pool heater H350 starts up no code heats the water but there’s gas escaping through the top vent. I can’t figure out what it is and why.

Gas escaping through the top vent of a Hayward H350 pool heater while heating without any error codes could indicate incomplete combustion or improper venting. Possible causes include:

1. Blocked or restricted exhaust vent.
2. Improper air-to-gas mixture.
3. Dirty or misaligned burners.
4. Insufficient air supply to the combustion chamber.
5. Heat exchanger obstruction causing combustion gases to divert.

These issues may not trigger error codes but can lead to gas venting improperly. Inspection and servicing by a qualified technician is recommended.
