Troubleshooting (cont'd)
Problem
Chain does not cut.
Tool feels hot.
Chain is difficult to rotate manually.
Probable Cause
Chain dull.
Too much tension on the chain.
Automatic oiler not lubricating
chain and bar.
Chain installed backward.
Guide bar worn.
Hydraulic fluid level low.
Incorrect hydraulic fluid viscosity.
Hydraulic fluid dirty.
Hydraulic pressure trapped in
saw motor.
Chain and bar improperly
adjusted.
Chain drive links damaged.
Bar groove damaged.

Probable Remedy
Remove chain and sharpen to chain
manufacturer's specifications or
replace with a sharp chain.
Adjust chain tension. See Saw Chain
and Bar Maintenance.
See Checking and Setting the
Automatic Chain Oiler.
Remove chain and install correctly.
Inspect guide bar rails for wear. See
Saw Chain and Bar Maintenance. If
excessively worn, replace guide bar.
Check the fluid level. Check system for
leaks.
Use hydraulic fluid with the correct
viscosity. See the Specifications and
Parts manual.
See the power source owner's manual
for procedure to replace hydraulic oil
and filter.
Release hydraulic pressure by using
proper hose disconnection procedure.

See Adjusting Chain Tension under
Saw Chain and Bar Maintenance in this
manual.
Remove chain and inspect drive links.
Remove chain and inspect bar groove.
