AFCI/GFCI Test
• This tool is designed to test 15 A and 20 A, 120 VAC single-phase
AFCI and GFCI equipment only.
• Refer all indicated problems to a qualified electrician.
• This tool simulates a certain type of arc and cannot represent all
arcing conditions. An AFCI that fails the AFI-100 test but passes the
button test may be operating properly.
Failure to observe these precautions can result in injury and can damage
the unit.
1.
Consult the AFCI or GFCI device manufacturer's installation instructions
to determine that the device is installed in accordance with the
manufacturer's specifications.
2.
Check for correct wiring of the receptacle and all remotely connected
receptacles on the branch circuit.
3.
Unplug all appliances or equipment on the circuit being tested to help
avoid erroneous readings.
4.
Operate the test button on the AFCI or GFCI device installed in the
circuit. The device must trip. If it does not, do not use the circuit.
Consult an electrician. If the device does trip, reset it.
5.
Plug the AFI-100 into the receptacle to be tested. Observe the polarity
LEDs to verify that the outlet is correctly wired. Refer to the complete
instructions in the "Polarity Test" section of this manual.
6.
Press and hold the AFCI or GFCI test button for at least 6 seconds. All
the LEDs on the AFI-100 must turn off, indicating that the AFCI or GFCI
