1. Remove any media from the drives and turn off all connected devices and the computer. Then,
disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the
computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. See "Removing the computer cover" on page 56.
3. Locate the memory module you want to replace. The memory modules are installed in the memory slots
on the system board. See "Parts on the system board" on page 6 .
4. Remove any parts that might prevent your access to the memory module. Depending on your computer
model, you might need to remove the PCI Express x16 graphics card for easier access to the memory
module. See "Replacing a PCI/PCI-Express card" on page 57.
5. Open the retaining clips and gently pull the memory module out of the memory slot.

6. Position the new memory module over the appropriate memory slot. Ensure that the notch
memory module aligns correctly with the slot key
straight down into the slot until the retaining clips close.

7. Reinstall the PCI Express x16 graphics card if you have removed it. See "Replacing a PCI/PCI-Express
card" on page 57.
