“super high pressure mercury lamp power supply” and the lamp (if any), to use this attachment safely and correctly. • P-FLA2 fluorescence attachment is only to be used together with the stereoscopic microscopes SMZ1500, SMZ1000 and SMZ800.
Warning/Caution Symbols Used in This Manual Although Nikon products are designed to provide you with the utmost safety during use, incorrect usage or disregard of the instructions can cause injury or property damage. For your safety, read the instruction manual carefully and thoroughly before using the instrument.
Do not disassemble any part other than those described in this manual. If you experience any problem, notify your nearest Nikon representative. 3. Use the specified light source. Use only the following items as the light source of the attachment.

WARNING 4. Read the instruction manual carefully. For your safety, carefully read this manual and the manuals for the products used in combination with this attachment. Especially, be sure to read the following warnings and cautions on the instruction manual of the “super high pressure mercury lamp power supply”...

• The inert gas inside the lamp are the same as those exist in air. They are harmless. Because safety is a top priority in the design of Nikon products, the hazards described above should not pose any danger as long as you heed all of the warnings and cautions in the manuals and use the system only for its intended purpose.

WARNING 6. Always keep four filter cubes in the fluorescence attachment Always keep four filter cubes in the fluorescence attachment. If you leave any of the cube mounts empty, strong light may enter and damage the user’s eyes at the time the filter cubes are switched.
Then, use a piece of dry cloth to wipe away any moisture. If any liquid or foreign matter gets inside, do not use the product but contact your nearest Nikon representative. 3. Cautions on assembly. Be careful not to pinch your hands or fingers during assembly.

3. Combination with other accessories. • P-FLA2 fluorescence attachment is only to be used together with the stereoscopic microscopes SMZ1500, SMZ1000 and SMZ800. • The intermediate-tube-typed accessories (such as the coaxial episcopic illuminator, drawing tube, teaching head, beam splitter, eyelevel riser, etc.) cannot be used together with the fluorescence...

Be sure to always follow these guidelines. 4. Handling of filters. Interference filters (especially excitation filters which are exposed to strong light) deteriorate over time. Replace them after the expiration of a predetermined time interval. Filter characteristics may change if the filter is exposed to high humidity.

Usage Centering the lamp Center the lamp before using the fluorescence attachment for the first time, or after you have exchanged the lamp. If the lamp is not centered correctly, the image can be dark, or there might be an uneven illumination. The procedure of lamp centering is the same as the procedure described in the instruction manual for the super high pressure mercury lamp power supply except for the following three points.
Page 39
Open the shutter. Pull out the shutter slider to remove the shutter from the optical path. Center the ark image and the mirror image of the ark. Since the centering tool is not used, observe the ark image on the stage plate.
Fluorescence microscopy Before the observation • Check the total elapsed time of the lamp turned on. If the total elapsed time exceeds the expected average life time of the lamp, exchange the lamp. (And do not forget to center it before usage.) •...
Usage Other microscopies When performing microscopies other than the fluorescence microscopy using the diascopic stands or halogen illuminators, place the shutter in the optical path and put the dia-filter cube in the optical path. Move to DIA. Pull out the lever. Filter cubes A filter block consists of three types of optical...

If you have a filter cube without any filters or mirror attached (P-FLFC filter cube), attach the filters and a mirror to the cube by the following procedure. Attaching filters and mirror to the filter cube 1 Remove the filter frame from the cube by loosening the fixing screws with the hexagonal screwdriver.
Usage Fluorescence photomicrography or TV observation To take photos or to monitor fluorescence images, attach the fluorescent attachment port P-FLAP or P-FLAP2 onto the port mount. And then, attach the proper adapter and a photomicrographic device or high sensitive TV camera. (Examples follow: The direct photo tube and the PL projection lens are required for the photomicrographic device.
