Replacing the battery
The following notes describe information that you must consider when replacing the
battery:

CAUTION:
When replacing the lithium battery, use only IBM Part Number 33F8354 or an
equivalent type battery recommended by the manufacturer. If your system has a
module containing a lithium battery, replace it only with the same module type made
by the same manufacturer. The battery contains lithium and can explode if not
properly used, handled, or disposed of.
Do not:
– Throw or immerse into water.
– Heat to more than 100° C (212° F)
– Repair or disassemble
Dispose of the battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.
Complete the following steps to replace the battery:

Note: In the U. S., call 1-800-IBM-4333 for information about battery disposal.
with heavy-metal components, be aware of the following environmental
consideration. Batteries and accumulators that contain heavy metals must not be
disposed of with normal domestic waste. They will be taken back free of charge
by the manufacturer, distributor, or representative, to be recycled or disposed of
in a proper manner.

Note: After you replace the battery, you must reconfigure your server and reset
the system date and time.
1. Read the safety information beginning on page v, and "Installation guidelines"
on page 11.
2. Follow any special handling and installation instructions supplied with the
battery.
3. Turn off the server and all attached devices and disconnect all power cords
and external cables (see "Turning off the server" on page 13); then, remove the
server cover (see "Removing the cover and bezel" on page 15).
4. Remove the adapters from PCI slots 1 and 2 (see "Working with adapters" on
page 16).
5. Disconnect any internal cables, as necessary.
