Connecting an OSDP HID reader to a KT-400 controller
Use this application note to wire a HID reader using OSDP protocol to a KT-400 controller
and to configure the setup in EntraPass.
Requirements

KT-400 Controller firmware 3.00.07 or higher
EntraPass Special, Corporate, or Global Edition 8.40 or later
•
HID Reader with OSDP communication
•
HID Reader Manager mobile application
•
Mobile device with Bluetooth
•
Note: Kantech have implemented Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP) 2.2. OSDP is
an access control communications standard developed by the Security Industry Association
(SIA). For more information about the protocol, refer to

Wiring the HID reader to the KT-400 controller
Use the RS-485 COM (COM2) port for OSDP communication.
1. Disconnect the power to the KT-400 controller.
2. Connect the reader's red wire to the +12VDC.
3. Connect the reader's black wire to the earth ground GND.
4. Connect the reader's white wire to the COM 485 +.
5. Connect the reader's green wire to the COM 485 -.

Configuring the card reader using the HID mobile app
Use the HID Reader Manager mobile application to set up the HID card reader.
1. Install the HID Reader Manager app on a device that has Bluetooth.
2. Open the app and tap Scan For Readers.
3. Tap the reader that you want to configure.
4. Tap Software and tap Configure.
5. Tap Inspect. Follow the instructions on the screen.
6. Tap Detailed Configuration and tap Communication Protocol.
7. Tap Host Protocol and enable OSDP.
8. In the ADDRESS field, enter an address. Addresses start at 0 in EntraPass. Refer to
your EntraPass system for the next available address.
9. Tap ADD TO TEMPLATE.
10. In the OSDP BAUD RATE field, enter the baud rate that you configured in
EntraPass.
