3. TROUBLE SHOOTING

Issue
Freewheel is blocked
Freewheel does not engage
/ slips
Hub has axial play
Hub rotates stiffly
Hub makes noise
Notches from the cassette
on the freewheel body.
Freewheel body rotates with
difficulty.
Freewheel is too noisy / too
quiet.

Reason
Spacer was forgotten during
assembly.
Spacer was compressed by
overtightening the thru axle.
Loose ratchet is mounted
upside down.
Too much or wrong grease on
the ratchets.
Ratchets are worn.
Spring was forgotten during
assembly.
Wear of the internal teeth of
the freewheel body
Ball bearings were not
mounted correctly.
Ball bearings are worn out.
Ball bearings are worn out.
Ball bearing non drive side
too tight.
Mounting sequence of the ball
bearings not observed.
Ball bearing pressed too far
into the threaded ratchet
before assembly.
Ball bearings are worn out.
The steel cassette works
itself into the alloy web of the
freewheel body.
Ball bearings in the freewheel
body are worn out.
The perception of the freewheel sound is very subjective. While
some riders prefer a loud freewheel sound, other riders want
a quiet freewheel. In principle, the freewheeling sound can be
influenced by the amount of grease between the ratchets. Less
grease increases the freewheeling sound, but at the same time
leads to higher wear.
Solution
Check correct assembly,
see "2.1 Overview", page 5.
Measure the length of the spacer.
If the spacer is shorter than 10.7
mm, it must be replaced.
Check correct assembly,

Clean and grease ratchets,
see "2.14 Mounting the freewheel
system", page 18.
Replace ratchets.
Check correct assembly,
see "2.1 Overview", page 5.
Replace atchets, replace
freewheel body. Thoroughly clean
the freewheel system.
Check correct assembly,
see "2.1 Overview", page 5.
Replace ball bearings.
Replace ball bearings.
Check correct assembly,
see "2.1 Overview", page 5.
Replace ball bearings.
Remove bad notches from the
rotor using a file.
Replace freewheel body.
