7. Service and Repair procedure
The ATB420/421 keyboard is designed for long life and reliable operation. To ensure that the
keyboard continues to operate at optimum performance some preventive maintenance is
recommended. The keyboard is also easy to disassemble and using only a Pozi-drive screwdriver
and snipe nose pliers it is possible to replace all the major modules of the keyboard. Repair
operations should however only be carried out by trained operators.
This section is split into two parts.
Preventative maintenance
Service and repair of the keyboard and internal module replacement
7.1
Preventative maintenance
This section is intended for users and support technicians who do not wish to disassemble the
keyboard.
7.1.1 OCR and MSR head cleaning
Cleaning cards are available from Access Keyboards. Part Number CARDCLEAN05. These can
be used to clean the OCR and MSR heads. The card is impregnated with an approved cleaning
agent and can also be used as a disposable cleaning pad to remove dirt from the outside of the
keyboard.
Keycap removal and replacement. A keycap removal tool is also available from Access
Keyboards. Part Number KEYPULLERABS
7.1.2 Functional Serial Test
Access Keyboards provide a diagnostic program, which allows users to test the operation of each
of the three devices i.e. the MSR, OCR and Bar Code ports.
