Machine / battery protection system
The machine is equipped with a machine/battery
protection system. This system automatically cuts off
power to the motor to extend machine and battery life.
The machine will automatically stop during operation if
the machine or battery is placed under one of the fol-
l o w i n g c o n d i t i o n s :

Overload protection

When the battery is operated in a manner that causes
it to draw an abnormally high current, the machine
automatically stops and the main power lamp blinks in
green. In this situation, turn the machine off and stop
t h e a p p l i c a t i o n t h a t c a u s e d t h e m a c h i n e t o b e c o m e
o v e r l o a d e d . T h e n t u r n t h e m a c h i n e o n t o r e s t a r t .

Overheat protection

When the machine or battery is overheated, the
machine stops automatically and the main power lamp
lights up in red. In this case, let the machine and battery
c o o l b e f o r e t u r n i n g t h e m a c h i n e o n a g a i n .

Overdischarge protection

When the battery capacity is not enough, the machine
stops automatically and the main power lamp blinks in
red. In this case, remove the battery from the machine
and charge the battery cartridges or change the battery
cartridges to fully charged ones.
Protections against other causes
Protection system is also designed for other causes that
c o u l d d a m a g e t h e m a c h i n e a n d a l l o w s t h e m a c h i n e t o
stop automatically. Take all the following steps to clear
t h e c a u s e s , w h e n t h e m a c h i n e h a s b e e n b r o u g h t t o a
temporary halt or stop in operation.
1.
Turn the machine off, and then turn it on again to
r e s t a r t .
2.
Charge the battery(ies) or replace it/them with
recharged battery(ies).
3.
Let the machine and battery(ies) cool down.
If no improvement can be found by restoring protection
system, then contact your local Makita Service Center.
NOTICE:
If the machine stops due to a cause
not described above, refer to the section for
troubleshooting.
Indicating the remaining battery

When the remaining battery capacity gets low, the bat-
tery indicator blinks on the applicable battery side. By
further use, the machine stops and the battery indicator
lights up. In this situation, charge the battery cartridge.

Press the check button on the battery cartridge to indi-
cate the remaining battery capacity. The indicator lamps
l i g h t u p f o r a f e w s e c o n d s .

NOTE: D e p e n d i n g o n t h e c o n d i t i o n s o f u s e a n d t h e
ambient temperature, the indication may differ slightly
from the actual capacity.
NOTE: The first (far left) indicator lamp will blink when
the battery protection system works.

The main power lamp lights up in green. To turn off the
m a c h i n e , p r e s s t h e m a i n p o w e r s w i t c h a g a i n .
NOTE: I f t h e m a i n p o w e r l a m p l i g h t s u p i n r e d o r
b l i n k s i n r e d o r g r e e n , r e f e r t o t h e i n s t r u c t i o n s f o r
machine/battery protection system.
NOTE: This machine employs the auto power-off
f u n c t i o n . T o a v o i d u n i n t e n t i o n a l s t a r t u p , t h e m a i n
power switch will automatically shut down when the
s w i t c h l e v e r a n d d r i v e l e v e r ( i f e q u i p p e d ) a r e n o t
p u l l e d f o r a c e r t a i n p e r i o d a f t e r t h e m a i n p o w e r s w i t c h
i s t u r n e d o n .
