12.2 Planing knives sharpening and replacement
It's necessary to periodically sharpen or replace the planing knives (fig. 17) when they get blunt.
Knife cutting edge should be sharp and free from deformations, indentations, cleavage and
cracks.
When mounting the new knives, replacing the fixing parts and after sharpening, the difference
in weight of a set of knives together with fixing set shall not exceed 1 gram. Total weight
difference adapting is performed by metal removal from a knife edges.
In case of replacement (adjustment) of planing knives, before unscrewing the screws settle
them (impact on the head of the screw with a hammer through hexagonal stick) in order to
preserve integrity of screws and threads of the plane shaft (fig. 17). This is necessary to remove
stress from threaded portions of the screws. In case of slipping of the hexagon, hammer the
T-27 TORX asterisk into the screw hole and unscrew it. Such screws shall be consequently
replaced with new ones.
12.3 Saw blade
It is recommended to use carbide-tipped saw blades for this machine.
Observe the direction of rotation when mounting the saw blade. The direction of saw blade
teeth should match the direction of the arrow on guard 2 of saw blade 32 (figure 1).
Saw blade removing is described in par. 11.5.1.
12.4 Driving belt replacement
To replace the driving belt, perform the following:
• Remove the saw blade as described in sub-item 11.5.1;
• Remove the rear part of saw blade casing 19 (fig. 1);
• Loosen the tension of belt 65 (fig. 15), by pulling the motor 67 up or removing the recoil
spring 65;
• Mount the new belt;
• Assemble the system in adverse order.
