TROUBLESHOOTING

Problem
Reduced flow.
Pump does not
pump water.
The pump does
not stop.
Overheated lead,
melted insulation.
24
Possible cause
Clogged filter.
Blocked outlet pipe.
Low battery voltage.
Bent outlet hose.
Wire connections.
Tripped fuse.
Fault on float switch.
Blocked float.
Stuck float.
Switch mounted too low.
IMPORTANT!
Combination of blocked
impeller and wrong size
of fuse.
Action
Clean the outside of the filter and the area
around the impeller, if necessary.
Backwash the pipe to clear it.
Check the battery voltage and charge the battery,
if necessary.
If the hose needs to be routed with a sharp curve,
use a hose that will not kink.
Check that all the connections are free from
corrosion. Tug on each lead to check that it is
firmly connected. Check that no lead is hanging
down in the water.
Check that the fuse is the right size. Check
through the inlet opening that the impeller is not
blocked.
Lift up the end of the float. The float switch is
working properly if the pump starts. If the pump
does not start turn the manual switch to the on
position; if the pump starts the automatic switch
has failed.
Check that nothing has stuck under the float to
prevent it from sinking.
Check that the float can move freely and is not
contaminated. The pump will work intermittently
if the float moves stiffly.
The reason for this is often the accumulation
of oil and/or dirt on the moving parts of the
float switch. Rectify by putting the float switch in
solvent for 10 minutes. Move it a few times and
check that the float moves smoothly. Repeat, if
necessary.
If the pump sucks air without the automatic
switch switching off, the switch could be mounted
too low. The switch should be mounted at least
1/4 over the base plate on the pump.
Check that the impeller is not blocked and can
rotate freely. Always use the right size of fuse.
Replace damaged lead and/or switch.
