2.11 Safety regulations with respect to maintenance
• Wear personal means of protection when performing maintenance tasks.
• Never work in a way that could jeopardize safety.
• Make sure that the equipment cannot roll away or tip over. The control and drive must be switched
off and safeguarded against unexpected activation.
• Make sure that moving parts do not move unexpectedly.
• Used or leaked fluids, and any other products consumed during the activities, must be collected and
disposed of in a environmentally responsible way.
3 Description
3.1 Equipment
The ram jack is one of the pieces of rescue equipment that makes it possible to reach victims. This tool
is used during rescue operations to force structural elements or vehicle components apart. On one side
there is a plunger with a ram head. A hydraulic cylinder makes this plunger move axially. The ram jacks
have interchangeable heads so that accessories for different purposes can be used. The high hydraulic
pressure that is used means this tool can apply enormous forces.
The ram jack can be used independently because of the battery-driven hydraulic system.
The tool is produced as a hand tool that can be operated by one person.
