DEFROST – STEAMING
Symptom :
Warm vapour from the defrost freezing on the ceiling forming ice and snow.
Cause:
Defrost duration too long.
Action:
Reduce number of defrosts per day. Adjust defrost termination stat
temperature or location. Check for time termination.
DEFROST – DUAL STEAMING
Symptom :
Warm vapour from the defrost freezing on the ceiling forming ice and snow, in an arc
from one cooler to another.
Cause:
Streaming – defrosting one cooler while operating the other.
Action:
Steaming actions – defrost all coolers in the room at the same time.
DEFROST – DRAIN PAN
Symptom:
Ice build-up in the drain pan. Well defined layers form with repeated defrost while
blocked.
Cause:
Drain line or tray heater failure. Drain line blocked with debris or ice. Poor drain line
slop or installation. Trap located in cold store.
Action:
Check drain line installation. Isolate electrical supply and check heaters. Clear
drain line pipes. Move trap outside cold store.
DEFROST – OPERATIONAL BLOCKAGE
Symptom:
Poor air throw. Ice and snow formation on coil, casework, and ceiling.
Cause:
Poor storage management. Boxes blocking air inlet on sides and bottom.
Action:
Reposition shelves and stored goods to allow free passage of air to cooler inlet.
DEFROST – UNEVEN ICE REMAINING AFTER DEFROST.
Symptom:
Uneven distribution of ice.
Cause:
Early defrost termination. Incorrect defrost probe location. Too few defrosts.
Failed defrost heater. Poor distribution
Action:
Increase defrost termination temperature. Relocate termination probe. Increase
number of defrosts. Replace faulty heater. Check TEV setting
