15 Winter Operation

15.1
Preheating the carburetor
15.1.1
At temperatures below 10°C
► Use the combination wrench or a screwdriver
to ease the shutter (1) out of the summer posi‐
tion s.
► Fit the shutter in the winter position (r) –
symbol r facing up.
Heated air is now drawn in from around the cylin‐
der to warm the carburetor – this helps prevent
carburetor icing.
► At temperatures above 20°C: Return the shut‐
ter to the summer position (s ) to avoid
engine running problems and overheating.
15.1.2
At temperatures below -10°C
It is advisable to fit the "cover plate" kit (special
accessory) if you use your saw in extremely cold
conditions (temperatures below -10°C, in powder
or drifting snow).
If idling behavior is erratic or acceleration is poor:
► Turn the low speed screw (L) 1/4 of a turn
counterclockwise.

every six months
annually
1
It is usually necessary to change the setting of
the idle speed screw (LA) after every correction
to the low speed screw (L) – see "Adjusting the
Carburetor".
► If your saw is very cold (frost or ice on
machine), start the engine and keep it at a
high idle speed (with chain brake disengaged)
until it reaches normal operating temperature.
15.2
Mounting kit
The cover plate mounting kit helps prevent snow
being sucked into the machine.
When the cover plate is fitted, the shutter must
be in the winter position.
In the event of engine running problems, first
check that the conditons for use of the cover
plate mounting kit still apply.
