    7 (34) 3. Safety instructions for using the attachment Please bear in mind that safety is the result of several factors. The loader-attachment combination is highly powerful and improper or careless use or maintenance may cause serious personal injury or property damage.

    9 (34) 3.1 Safe shutdown procedure Safe stopping of the attachment, before going near the attachment: Always stop the attachment following safe stopping procedure before leaving the driver's seat. Safe stopping procedure prevents all unintentional movements of the attachment. Note that the loader boom can move down even if the engine of the loader is turned off.

    11 (34) 4.1 Safety labels and main components of the attachment Listed below are the labels and markings on the attachment. They must be visible and readable on the equipment. Replace any unclear or missing label. New labels are available via your retailer or contact information provided on the cover.

    Do not stay in the area between the attachment and the loader. Mount the attachment only on level surface. WARNING Never move or lift an attachment that has not been locked. Avant quick coupling system: Step 1:  Lift the quick attach plate locking pins up and turn them backwards into the slot so that they are locked in the upper position.

    5.1 Connecting and disconnecting hydraulic hoses On Avant loaders the hydraulic hoses are connected using the multi connector system. If you have an Avant 300-700 series loader with the conventional quick couplers and wish to change to the multi connector system, contact your Avant dealer or service point for instructions or installation services.
  • Page 15 15 (34) Keep all fittings as clean as possible; use the protective caps on both the attachment and the loader. Dirt, ice, etc. may make using the fittings significantly more difficult. Never leave the hoses hanging on the ground; place the couplings onto the holder on the attachment.

    17 (34) Clean the equipment thoroughly before starting the installation and make sure that i.e. dirt, dust or water will not enter the hydraulic components or the hydraulic oil. Keep the protective covers in place until the components can be installed directly. Follow safety procedures and wear proper personal protective equipment.

    18 (34) 6.3 Tightening hydraulic fittings Tighten the fittings carefully according to given instructions and safety procedures. Keep in mind that over tightening will break a fitting. Tighten basic fittings carefully with hand tools using moderate torque. The elbow fittings should be tightened at last, after hoses have been fitted to their clamps. Allow the hydraulic systems of the loader and of the attachment to cool down completely before any work on hydraulic systems.

    19 (34) Check the routing of hoses and movements of the attachment After tightening the hydraulic components, test the movements of the attachment thoroughly. Check that the hydraulic hoses cannot get stretched or pinched in any position of the loader boom or the attachment, and check that the hoses are not in contact with sharp edges.

    21 (34) 6.5 Electric connection Electric functions of the attachment: The selection between the splitting cylinder and the optional hydraulic blade adjustment can be controlled with the standard electric harness that is supplied with the attachment, or with the attachment control switch pack (optional equipment for loaders) or with the Opticontrol system (optional equipment for loaders).
  • Page 22 22 (34) If your loader is  equipped with the Opticontrol ®,  the Attachment control switch pack, and the loader is manufactured after 2016: electric socket integrated multiconnector, electric harness attachment is connected when the multiconnector is coupled. Clean both multiconnectors before connecting the multiconnector.

    23 (34) 7. Instructions for use Practise the use of the attachment and the controls of the loader in a safe area. If you are unfamiliar with the particular loader model, it is recommended to practice its use without any attachments. Risk of tipping over - Avoid overload.

    27 (34) 7.3.2 Adjusting the blade height The height of the splitting blade (1) can be adjusted manually to match the log diameter. It can also be set to split the log into two pieces instead of quarters. It may be easier to split stiff wood or wood with many branches by splitting it only into two halves, so that the wood will not stick on the blade.

    28 (34) 7.4 Transport position When driving with the loader, keep the Log splitter lifted off the ground, as shown in the adjacent figure. Also keep the hydraulic boom completely retracted during transport. For safety, it is recommended to disconnect the auxiliary hydraulics outlet during transport drive.

    30 (34) 8.2 Inspection of metal structures Also the metal structures of the attachment must be inspected regularly. Check visually for damages and inspect the quick attach brackets and their surrounding area carefully. The attachment must not be used if it is deformed, cracked, or torn.

    31 (34) 8.5 Splitting wedge Depending on use, different blade type can be used. The splitter has a standard blade for splitting quarters and a 6 way blade for bigger logs as an option. The splitting wedge of the splitter can be sharpened or replaced, as it wears during use.
