    Safety Information Work Area • Make sure you thoroughly inspect the entire work area and remove all objects and anything that could be thrown by the machine or could damage the engine or machine (branches, stones, wire, toys, etc). Attempting to clear the work area whilst using the machine will reduce your concentration and creates a trip hazard.

    Intended Use The HYM480SPR is a petrol powered rear roller, self-propelled lawnmower from HYUNDAI, ideally suited for medium to large sized lawns. The HYM480SPR has a cutting width of 480mm and is powered by a 139cc 4-stroke OHV petrol engine.

    Assembly Step 4 : Cable Attachment NOTE - If stood behind the lawnmower: OPC Cable : Attaches to the lever in front of the main handlebar if traced, will attach to the engine. Drive Cable : Attaches to the lever behind the main handlebar and if traced, will enter the deck of the lawnmower behind the engine.

    Preparation Adding Oil Oil Type : SAE 30 or 15w40 Engine Oil Oil Capacity : 600ml NOTE - The machine is delivered without oil in the engine. All machines are tested and inspected so there may be some residual oil left in the machine so please fill with caution. Remove the oil filler cap.

    Preparation Adding Fuel Make sure you read the fuel safety before handling fuel. Fuel Type : Fresh Straight Unleaded Petrol Fuel Capacity : 1L NOTE - The machine is delivered without petrol. All machines are tested and inspected so there may be some residual petrol left in the machine so please fill with caution.

    Operation Cutting Height Adjustment Make sure the engine is off. Pull the adjustment lever outwards and select the required height. The height is automatically adjusted for all wheels.     Operation Rear Discharge Lift the rear discharge flap and remove the grass collector. Install the 2 rear discharge supports and rest the rear discharge flap onto the supports. These are the rear discharge plugs. They will keep the rear discharge flap open slightly for the grass clippings to discharge.

    Operation Creating Stripes Stripes are created by light reflecting off the grass blades. Blades bent towards you appear dark and the grass blades facing away look lighter. Stripes look best on a healthy and bright lawn. If your lawn is looking tired and dull, we recommend using a HYUNDAI Lawn Scarifier and Aerator.

    Operation General Mowing Tips Maintain a constant cutting height of 3-5cm. Do not shorten the grass to less than half its original height. Under certain conditions, such as very tall grass, it may be necessary to raise the height of cut to reduce pushing effort, prevent overloading of the motor and leaving clumps of grass clippings.

    Starting Procedure YOU MUST read and understand the full safety instruction manual before starting the machine. CAUTION - For OUTDOOR use ONLY. Petrol machines produce carbon monoxide – poisonous, colourless and odourless gas that can cause serious injury or death. Petrol is highly flammable, always handle with extreme care and in a well ventilated area.
  • Page 37 Starting Procedure Starting Make sure the blade is free of long grass and the cutting height is set to the highest setting. Place the choke lever to the ‘START’ position. This is located on the left of the central panel when stood behind the lawnmower.
  • Page 38 Stopping Procedure Stopping Before stopping the machine, you must allow the engine to idle for 30 seconds. You do not need to do this if you need to emergency stop the engine. Release the Operator Presence Control (OPC) lever and the engine will stop. CAUTION - The engine and exhaust will remain hot for a while after use.

    Maintenance Maintenance Safety IMPORTANT - Routine and accurate maintenance is essential for maintaining original machine safety and performance levels. WARNING - Before cleaning or doing maintenance work, you need to stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug cable and read the relevant instructions. You need to wear proper clothing and protective gloves whenever your hands are at risk.

    Maintenance Hose Attachment • Connect a garden hose to the quick release hose connector on left side of the cutting deck, lower the cutting deck, start the engine and turn on water supply. Run engine for 2 minutes to clean underside of cutting deck. Transportation Whenever the machine is to be handled, lifted, transported or tilted, you must: Wear sturdy work gloves.

    Maintenance Storage Where To Store Store in a cool, dry place away from sources of ignition and varying changes in temperature. Store on a flat and level surface with all wheels on the ground. DO NOT stack other items on top of the machine when in storage. Store the machine in a safe place, out of the reach of children or anyone who is not familiar with operation.
  • Page 43 Maintenance Long Term Storage If storing the machine for a period of 30 days or more, you must follow proper storage and winterisation guidelines to avoid any possible issues with the machine. Incorrect storage can lead to possible fueling or engine issues that will not be covered by the warranty. Allow the engine to fully cool down.

    Maintenance Air Filter CAUTION - A dirty air filter will restrict the air flow to the carburettor, which will reduce engine efficiency. When using the machine in very dusty areas you must clean or replace the air filter more often. Never operate the machine without the air filter being fitted it can cause damage to the engine which is not covered by warranty.

    Maintenance Spark Plug For good performance, the spark plug must be properly gapped and free of deposits. You MUST allow the engine to cool down before carrying out any maintenance. Always use the correct spark plug. To check the spark plug, remove the spark plug HT lead cap and remove the spark plug with the spark plug wrench.

    Maintenance OPC Cable Adjustment NOTE - If there is more than 10mm movement in the OPC lever before the cable begins to move, then the OPC cable will require adjustment. It is necessary as part of routine maintenance to adjust the OPC cable tension to ensure the lawnmower will start correctly. Follow the OPC cable to the adjuster located on the side of the engine.
