Wattage Reference Chart
Do not exceed your generator's capacity: Exceeding the wattage or amperage capacity can damage
your generator and any devices attached to it.
1. Identify all of the devices you would like to power by your generator at the same time.
2. Calculate the total watts for all items (amps x volts = watts).
3. Note that electric motors typically require substantially more wattage (2 – 3 times more) to start the
devices than the rated wattage required to run the devices.
Below is a chart to help you estimate the required wattage for starting and running appliances:
Appliance
Portable Heater
Small Refrigerator
Television
Microwave
Air Conditioner (20,000 BTU)
Coffee Maker
Furnace Fan
Refrigerator/Freezer
3/8" Hand Drill
7 ¼" Circular Saw
