Thermia Värmepumpar is not liable or bound by warranty if these instructions are not adhered to during installation or service. The English language is used for the original instructions. Other languages are a translation of the original instructions. (Directive 2006/42/EC)
Commissioning iTec About documents and decals Introduction The following documents are available for this product: ▪ The Installation Quick Guide is an illustrated step-by-step guide on how to install the heat pump. Supplied with the heat pump on delivery. ▪ Installation Guide. Complements the Installation Quick Guide and gives thorough information on how to install the heat pump.
Commissioning iTec Symbols on decals The following symbols can occur on decals on the different parts of the heat pump. Which symbols are used depends on the heat pump model. 1.3.1 General Warning, danger! Warning, hot surfaces! Warning, moving parts! Read the documentation provided.
General safety precautions Carefully follow the precautions listed as below because they are essential to guarantee the safety of Thermia product. Store the manual in a safe place in order to be able to use it as reference after installation. Remember to hand it over to the new owner if the heat pump unit is sold or transferred.

Caution ter turning off the power, because the unit contains capacitors which may be charged. Do not start the unit ( iTec Total) if there is a possibility of frozen water Caution in the immersion heater. When cooling, it is important to limit the lowest flow line temperature Caution to prevent condensation.
Commissioning iTec Refrigerant 2.2.1 Refrigerant Work on the refrigerant circuit must only be carried out by a certified Caution engineer! Although the heat pump cooling system (refrigerant circuit) is filled with a chlorine-free and environmentally-approved refrigerant that will not affect the ozone layer, work on this system may only be carried out by authorized persons.
Commissioning iTec All warranties from Thermia are void if, when filling with refrigerant Caution other than not valid specified refrigerant, if there has not been written notification that the new refrigerant is an approved replacement re- frigerant together with other remedies.
Commissioning iTec Configuration of control system Setting heat pump size The installation may only be commissioned if the heating system and Caution water heater have been filled and bled. Otherwise the circulation pump can be damaged. To be able to commission the installation, make sure the outdoor and indoor units are powered on.
Commissioning iTec To avoid alarms during start-up, the outdoor unit must be powered Make the settings in the order they appear in the text that follows. Further information about parameters on the indoor unit are found in the Information Menu and Service Menu chapters.
If the heat demand is greater than the heat pump’s compressor capacity, the immersion heater engages automatically in operating mode AUTO. iTec Total has three outputs, IMM. HEAT 1, IMM. HEAT 2 (factory default) and IMM. HEAT 3 and output can be controlled in five steps.
In iTec Total a multi power stage heater (IMM. HEATER) is factory installed. The indoor unit control system engages the appropriate amount of heating power to ensure the desired heating system temperature. Below is a table describing the different power steps.
Commissioning iTec The following settings are made in the Service Menu. If not already in the Service Menu, enter the Service Menu by pressing and holding left (<) arrow for at least 5 seconds. Use + or – to move up and down in the menu.
There are three available mixing valve options: ▪ Mixing valve (Activation, see chapter "Activate the external auxiliary heater in iTec Standard") ▪ Distribution circuit (DISTR. CIRCUIT) 1 ▪ Distribution circuit (DISTR. CIRCUIT) 2 (Requires expansion card) The mixing valve is used between the heat pump, an external auxiliary heater (may be an oil burner or equivalent) and the heating system.
The Optimum circulation pump is factory installed in iTec Total. The OPTIMUM option is however not activated from factory. If fixed speed circulation pump is used, which may be the case for iTec Standard, then skip this setting. The following settings are made in the Service Menu. If not already in the Service Menu, enter the Service Menu by pressing and holding left (<) arrow for at least 5 seconds.
If any functions are activated after the FIND MIN.FLOW sequence is done, they will have their respective default setting. For iTec Standard, with fixed speed circulation pump, the flow has to be set from MANUAL TEST. Make sure the "F" symbol is present in the display after finishing the test.
Page 18
Commissioning iTec Find the min. flow in the menu: ▪ SERVICE ▪ OPTIMUM ▪ FIND MIN. FLOW ▪ Press right arrow (>) to enter the FIND MIN. FLOW menu. The off symbol ( ) is shown. ▪ Press right arrow (>) to activate the FIND MIN. FLOW menu.
Page 19
Commissioning iTec The min. flow found in this procedure is the actual flow that exists in the current configuration of the system. Seasonal variations with dif- ferent temperatures may alter the behavior of the system and this may affect the flow as well. For example, automatic radiator valves may open or close depending on the temperature.
Commissioning iTec Manual test The installation may only be commissioned if the heating system and Caution water heater have been filled and bled. Otherwise the circulation pump can be damaged. Any alarms that may occur in connection with the installation must be Caution fault-traced.
Page 21
In the event of pumps with fixed speed, the selection 0 = stop and 1 = start are available For iTec Standard, with fixed speed circulation pump, the flow has to be set from MANUAL TEST. Make sure the "F" symbol is present in the display after finishing the test. If not, check the system for air, and that the flow switch is correctly installed.
Page 22
Commissioning iTec If the flow in the circulation pumps need to be adjusted, see chapter Adaptation of the heating system. The following settings are made in the MANUAL TEST menu. To activate MANUAL TEST, see description above. Use + or – to move up and down in the menu.
Page 23
Commissioning iTec Test reversing valve (if installed) for hot water 1. Activate the reversing valve by setting the value REV.V. HOT WATER to 1. 2. Check that the indicator on the reversing valve's upper side changes position. Test the auxiliary heater 1.
Page 24
Commissioning iTec Exit test operation Set the value for MANUAL TEST to 0. Insulate the piping When the manual testing is finished, do a final check for leaks and insulate the piping. Make sure that pipes transporting cold water are insulated to prevent Caution condensation damage.
Commissioning iTec Menu information The heat pump has an integrated control system which automatically calculates the heat demand in the house to ensure that the cor- rect amount of heat is produced and emitted when necessary. The control system is operated using a keypad and information is shown in a display and by an indicator.
