Recovery
(DTF)
Recovery is to recreate the DIT of a cassette that has
not been properly unloaded.
The loaded tape must be unloaded before ejection,
whereupon the DIT is updated. If a cassette is ejected
without an appropriate unload operation, the tape of
the cassette cannot be loaded without recreating the
DIT.
In a recovery operation, management information
added to the user data on the tape that has not been
properly unloaded is read, and based on the data, the
DIT is recreated and written to the tape.
If [Recover?] appears in the display window, a
recovery operation is required.
Note
Recovery is to re-create the DIT but not to recover the
user data.
Recovery in Auto Load mode
When a cassette is inserted, loading is automatically
executed. Then [Recover?] appears in the display
window.
Perform recovery by either of the following two
methods:
Method 1
Insert a cassette, then execute recovery using the
OPERATION menu (page 37) on the display.
Method 2
Insert a cassette, then send the RECOVER command
from the host computer.
The DIT is re-created based on the management
information read from all the user data on the tape, and
is written to the tape. Then the tape is loaded, and the
tape stops at the point before the user data area.
Recovery in Manual Load mode
There are two methods:
Method 1
Insert a cassette, then execute recovery using the
OPERATION menu (page 37) on the display.
Method 2
Send the RECOVER command from the host
computer.
The DIT is re-created based on the management
information read from the user data on the tape and is
written to the tape.
Then the tape is rewound to the beginning.

Data Compression

The GY-8240FC compresses data using the ALDC
algorithm, and stores a large amount of data on a
cassette. Whether or not to compress the data can be
set with the SETUP menu on the display or MODE
SELECT command. When the setting of the menu is
completed, once turn the power off then on again.
When data are read from a tape, it is automatically
detected whether the data have been compressed or
not. No switch setting or command is required.
For setting on the menu, see "8. Compress" in "SETUP
menu" (page 35).
Using the MODE SELECT command
Set on the Data Compression Control Page (page code:
0Fh) of the MODE SELECT command.
Note
When controlling data compression in this method, set
"8. Compress" of the SETUP menu to "SCSI."
