ENGINE START-UP

1. Ensure all personnel are clear of the truck
before starting the engine. Sound the horn as a
warning before actuating any operational con-
trols. If the truck is in an enclosure, ensure ade-
quate ventilation before start-up. Exhaust fumes
are dangerous!
2. Ensure the parking brake switch is in the ON
position. The selector switch must be in NEU-
TRAL before starting the truck.
3. If the truck is equipped with auxiliary cold
weather heaters, DO NOT start the engine
while the heaters are on. Damage to the coolant
heaters will result.
4. The key switch is a four-position switch (ACC,
OFF, RUN, START). The ACC position is not
currently used. When the switch is rotated one
position clockwise, it is in the RUN position and
all electrical circuits (except START) are acti-
vated. With the selector switch in NEUTRAL,
rotate the key switch fully clockwise to the
START position and hold this position until the
engine starts. The START position is spring
loaded to return to RUN when the key is
released.
