    To remove the live center: Turn the quill handwheel counterclockwise until the tailstock quill bottoms out, causing the center to be forced out of the quill. The tailstock quill lock handle must always be locked down while the lathe is in use. The workpiece can be thrown from the lathe if this step is not observed.
