WARNING:
To prevent serious injury, never perform
maintenance on the unit while it is running. Always remove
the battery to prevent the unit from starting accidentally.
Always allow the unit to cool before maintaining the unit.
Before maintaining the battery charger, always unplug it
from the power outlet.
REPLACING THE TRIMMING LINE
NOTE: Only use the type of trimming line described in the
Specifications section. Other types of trimming line may cause
the unit to overheat or fail.
WARNING:
Never use metal-reinforced line, wire, chain or
rope. These can break off and become dangerous projectiles.
NOTE: Always use the correct line length when installing trimming
line. The line may not release properly if the line is too long.
NOTE: The cutting head base will remain attached to the unit.
Part 1 - Disassembling the Cutting Head
1. Firmly press both tabs to unlock the spool cover (Fig. 19). DO
NOT press the tabs with a screwdriver or other object.
2. Remove the spool cover.
3. Remove the inner reel and bump knob (Fig. 20).
4. Remove the bump knob from the inner reel (Fig. 20).
5. Remove the spring (Fig. 20).
6. If present, remove any remaining trimming line from the inner reel.
7. Clean the inside of the cutting head. Use a clean cloth. Clean
each surface and component.
8. Inspect the inside of the cutting head. Check each surface and
component for burs, wear, or other damage. Carefully remove any
burs. Have worn or damaged parts replaced by an authorized
service center.
Part 2 - Winding New Trimming Line onto the Inner Reel
1. Cut one 10-foot (3 m) length of new trimming line.
2. Fold the line in half to create a loop in the middle.
3. Insert the loop into the slot in the split wall (Fig. 21). Wind the
trimming line tightly in the direction shown on the inner reel (Fig. 21).
Keep the top half of the line above the split wall and the bottom
half of the line below the split wall. Wind the trimming line until
about 6 inches (150 mm) remain on each end.
4. Insert the two ends into the two holding slots (Fig. 22).
NOTE: Failure to wind the line in the direction indicated will cause
the cutting head to operate incorrectly.
