Cleaning the Thermal Head

After printing, the thermal head can be very hot. Be careful not to
touch it and to let it cool before you clean it. Do not damage the
thermal head by touching it with your fingers or any hard object.
Power off the printer, open the roll paper cover, and clean the thermal
elements of the thermal head with a cotton swab moistened with an
alcohol solvent (ethanol or IPA).
Epson recommends cleaning the thermal head periodically (generally
every 3 months) to maintain receipt print quality.

Running a Self-test

In self-test mode the printer will perform a series of internal
diagnostics, and then provide a listing of printer settings.
Having a printed self-test in hand when calling for technical support
can help speed the troubleshooting process.
Use the following procedure to start a self-test.
1.
Make sure there is a roll paper loaded into the printer.
2.
Power off the printer.
3.
Press and hold the FEED button, then power on the printer.
4.
As soon as the printer begins to print, release the FEED button.
The self-test information will print, and the PAPER OUT LED will
flash.
5.
You can either terminate the self-test by powering the printer off
and back on, or press the FEED button for an extended print test
after which "*** completed ***" will print, the printer will reset and
be ready for use.
