11.Install the back bendix plate with the four allen
head bolts using loctite.
12.Install the key and hub. Place the belleville springs
on axle, cups facing each other and install axle nut.
13.Install wheel assembly and tighten lug bolts.
14.Jack the unit down and service with clean fresh oil.
15.Prime the transmission.
Axle Housing Removal and Installation
NOTE: The axle housings can be removed for mainte-
nance without removing the transaxle from unit.
Removal of the mower attachment will be necessary.
1. Place a drain pan under the transaxle and remove
the oil drain plug. Drain the transaxle.
2. Jack the unit at the appropriate axle and remove
the wheel assembly.
3. Remove the appropriate lift arm and pivot bracket
weldments.
4. Remove the two appropriate transaxle mounting
bolts at the frame.
5. Remove the six axle housing bolts mounting the
axle housing. Remove axle housing from unit. See
Figure 41.

6. Inspect and replace any worn or damaged parts.
7. Clean both the axle housing and transaxle center
section mating surfaces prior to assembling parts.
8. Install the axle housing applying loctite to the six
mounting bolts (two longer bolts used in the bottom
two holes).
9. Install the two spacers and axle housing to frame
bolts using loctite.
10.Install the pivot bracket weldment using loctite on
mounting bolts. Install the lift arm weldment.
11.Install the wheel assembly and tighten the lug bolts
to spec.
12.Lower the unit and service with clean fresh oil.
13.Prime the transmission.
Transaxle Repair (Center Section)
1. Remove the transaxle from unit.
2. Remove the left side axle housing. For complete
transaxle teardown remove both axle housings.
3. Remove the differential lock and shift lever bracket.
See Figure 41. Remove the dowel pins from the
ends of the shafts and clean exposed section for
cover removal.
4. Position the transaxle with the cover side up and
remove the cover bolts.
NOTE: When removing the cover from the case use a
rubber mallet and tap on the ends of the shafts to pre-
vent them from coming out of the transaxle when the
cover is removed.
5. Carefully remove the cover. See Figure 42.

4. Differential Assembly (#4 shaft)
NOTE: The following disassembly procedure is for a
transaxle with differential lock. The difference between
differential lock and non-differential lock is a locking
collar and pin assembly on the differential assembly
and locking shifter rod assembly.
6. Remove the differential along with the locking
shifter rod assembly and thrust washer and high
range driven gear from #1 shaft. See Figure 43.
