2. Intended use

- Measuring and displaying electrical parameters in the measuring category CAT III up to max.
600 V or CAT II up to max. 1000 V against ground potential in compliance with EN 61010-1
and all lower categories. The multimeter may not be used in the measuring category CAT IV.
- Direct and alternating current measurements up to max. 600 A (AC - True RMS)
- DC and AC voltage measurements up to max. 1000 V/DC, 750 V/AC (AC - True RMS)
- Temperature measurements from -40 to +1000 °C
- Resistance measurements up to 60 MΩ
- Continuity check (<10 Ω acoustic)
- Diode test
- Capacitance measurements up to 6 mF
- Non-contact AC voltage detection (NCV) ≥100 - 750 V/AC and ≤10 mm distance
A rotary switch is used to select the desired measuring function. Automatic range selection is
active for all measuring functions (except temperature measurement, diode test and continuity
test).
The VC-590 OLED displays true RMS in both the alternating current and alternating voltage
range. For negative values, the polarity is displayed automatically with the sign (-).
The multimeter features a folding current clamp for non-contact current measurement. There
is no need to disconnect the circuit to be measured. The current clamp is also designed and
approved for measuring non-insulated, dangerously live conductors. The voltage in the circuit to
be measured may not exceed 1000 V in CAT II or 600 V in CAT III. It is recommended to wear
personal protective equipment for measurements in the CAT III range. The multimeter may not
be used in the CAT IV range.
The multimeter is operated with three commercially available 1.5 V micro batteries (type AAA,
LR03).
The multimeter may be operated with the specified battery type only. Batteries with a cell voltage
of 1.2 V may not be used. An automatic power-off function prevents premature battery drain. The
automatic power-off function can be deactivated or set from 1 to 30 minutes in 1 minute intervals.
Do not operate the multimeter when the housing or battery compartment is open or if the battery
compartment cover is missing.
Measurements in potentially explosive areas (Ex) or wet rooms or in adverse ambient condi-
tions are not permissible. Adverse ambient conditions are defined as such: Wet conditions or
high humidity, dust or flammable gases, vapors or solvents as well as thunderstorms or similar
conditions such as strong electrostatic fields, etc.
