Smoke Lifters

The Union Pacific Railroad applied smoke lifter panels to the front of some their
Challenger locomotives. MTH has supplied a set of smoke lifters with the UP
versions that can be installed by the operator if desired.
To install the smoke lifters, gently loop the hooked ends on the 3 supports onto the
handrail at the smoke box section of the boiler. Then slide the U-shaped clip over
the running board.
To remove the smoke lifters, gently pull the bottom of the smoke lifter away from
the running board. Then unhook the supports from the handrail.
Install one side then the other. Remove one side then the other. Do not attempt to
install or remove both sides at the same time. Refer to figure 7.

Classification Flags

Your Challenger Type Locomotive comes with a pair of classification flags that are
packed separately in the styrofoam container.
There are flag holders molded into the front of the radiator sheild on the pilot.
To install the Classification Flags, insert the flag handles into the flag holders.
Refer to figure 8.
