Appendix C Common Problems

Windows 3.0 Won't Go into 386 Enhanced Mode

Modify the SMARTDRV.SYS statement in your CONFIG.SYS file. Add the
"Disable double buffering" parameter "/b-" to the end of the statement.
For example:
If the SMARTDRV.SYS statement looks like this:
device=c:\windows\smartdrv.sys 2048 1024
Change it to look like this:
device=c:\windows\smartdrv.sys 2048 1024 /b-
slow rate.
The onboard cache memory is not enabled. Refer to the section on "Software
Installation" on enabling the cache.
