Hard Disk Drive Replacement Instructions
This document helps you to complete the following tasks:
v Remove a failed hard disk drive and replace it with a new hard disk drive
v Verify that the new hard disk drive is working correctly
Important: Before you proceed with these instructions, review the IBM Systems Safety Notices provided in
the IBM Media Terms and Conditions CD that is included with your appliance model.
Note: The illustrations in this document might differ slightly from your appliance model.
Replacing a hard disk drive
You must replace a hard disk drive in the following instances:
v The LED status that is on the front of the appliance for the hard drive is illuminated in amber.
v You are instructed to do so by IBM
Procedure
Complete the following steps to replace a hard disk drive:
1. Slide the orange lock on the hard drive assembly to the left to unlock it.
2. Press the blue button to open the lever.
3. Pull the lever toward you to pull the drive from the chassis, as shown in Figure 1. Set the drive aside.

4. Unpack the replacement hard disk drive. When you unpack the replacement drive, make sure that the
gold connectors on the back of the drive do not touch your hands or the packing material.
5. Align the replacement drive carefully with the assembly bay, and insert the drive into the chassis.
Make sure that the gold connectors do not touch the chassis as you insert the replacement drive in the
chassis.
6. Push the lever forward until you hear the release latch click into place.
7. Slide the orange lock on the hard drive assembly to the locked (right) position.
