ENGLISH
Use a receptacle of appropriate size. Jeulin 250 ml (Ref. : 453 066) and 500
ml (Ref. : 453 057) receptacles are totally suitable for an average-size
goldfish (7-8 cm).
9 Most frequent causes of difficulties
The proportion of O2 greatly reduces at the start of acquisition :
The probe has not stabilized in the experiment medium, wait a few
minutes.
The proportion of O2 does not vary in the presence of living
organisms :
The living organisms are too small in relation to the receptacle's volume.
The sensitive part of the probe (under the immersion level mark) is not
submerged in the experiment medium.
The proportion of O2 greatly reduces :
Insufficient agitation. The probe is not stabilized.
The value is nil :
The 5 minutes heating time has not elapsed.
The physical/chemical properties of the water used can affect the
result :
The initial oxygen concentration in the water used is too low, and thus it
is advisable to oxygenate the water to achieve almost saturation
concentration.
Some ions (chlorine, nitrate) may interfere with the measurement.
Regularly oxygenated aquarium water is ideal to control this parameter.
Avoid recently drawn tap water.
The initial temperature of the medium: the warmer the water, the lower
the oxygen concentration.
The water used is laden with micro-organisms or stagnant with a very
low oxygen concentration which interferes with the respiration of fish or
other organisms.
