The Vector Power Head specimen capacity for single loading is one to four. The specimen capacity for central loading is up to six depending on the specimen holder.
(30-90%). Machine Use and Care All operators should be trained in the use of the Vector Power Head. If training is needed contact Buehler at 800.BUEHLER (800.283.4537) or your local Buehler Sales Representative. Always use safety glasses. Flying debris and liquids can cause severe eye injury.
NOTICE indicates practices not related to personal injury. Unpacking The Vector Power Head has been carefully packaged to protect it during transit from the factory to your location. Carefully unpack and check the contents. If any components are missing or damaged, save the packing list and materials and advise the carrier and Buehler of the discrepancy.
The Vector Power Head is bolted to a wood base for protection during shipping. Open areas are provided at the corners of the base for ease of lifting. Lift the Vector Power Head out of the carton and position it on a table so it overhangs on the edge.
Vector Power Head Installation on MetaServ 250 Grinder Polisher The MetaServ 250 Grinder Polisher must be configured to accept a Vector Power Head. If your MetaServ 250 Grinder Polisher does not have the Vector Power Head switch, contact your local Buehler Service Representative.

11. Use the 6 mm L-Wrench or T-Wrench to four 6 mm fastener screws to secure the Vector Power Head to the grinder polisher base. Figure 8 Using the T-Wrench to secure the Vector Power Head 12. Pull the rubber boot down over the groove of the gray plastic ring. Make sure that the rubber boot has proper contact along the entire circumference of the gray plastic ring (see Figure 9).
Vector Power Head Installation on a Dual Grinder Polisher Base When installing a Vector Power Head to a dual platen grinder polisher, a knurled screw must be installed to allow the positioning of the Vector Power Head onto either platen base.
Figure 12 Water Solenoid Air Connections The Vector Power Head is shipped with a filter capable of filtering a range of 55 psi (3.8 bar) - 85 psi (5.8 bar). The air supply must be clean, dry, and oil-free. 1. Connect the stem fitting (P/N 824122) of the supplied air filter line adaptor assembly (see Figure 14) to the air intake on the back of the Vector Power Head (see Figure 13).
1. Screw the brass fitting (P/N 1990S033) into the air filter (P/N 10486) and tighten. 2. Connect the supply air line to the quick-disconnect coupling (P/N 824140). 3. Connect the stem fitting (P/N 824122) to the air intake on the back of the Vector Power Head. •...
Activating the Vector Power Head 1. Connect the supplied power cord to the power inlet on the back of the Vector Power Head. 2. Connect the other end of the power cord to an appropriate power source. 3. On the back of the Vector Power Head move the main power switch to the ON position.
In the SINGLE FORCE mode, the platen will not rotate after pressing the green START buttons. 9. Raise the locking ring as far as possible to set the lower travel limit of the Vector Power Head. Tighten the clamp screw on the locking ring.
When using the APEX Systems the platen height is raised and may not provide adequate space between the power head and platen base. If the height is not adjusted, the Vector Power Head can crash into the platen base causing equipment damage.
Specimen Holders The Vector Power Head can operate with two types of specimen holders: Central Force and Single Force. Central Force Specimen Holder With a central force specimen holder up to six specimens can be prepared at 1¼-inch in size.
Single Force Specimen Holder With a single force specimen holder, one, two, three, or four specimens can be prepared at one time and a determined force is applied to each individual specimen. Individual specimens can be easily removed and examined as each preparation stage is completed. Single force specimen holders are recommended when preparing specimens on a limited basis.
Vector Power Head Control Panel The Vector Power Head front control panel has a set of parameters that can be programmed to operate during a grinding-polishing cycle. Use the SELECT MODE to a select a parameter. As a parameter is selected, a LED will light up next to the selected parameter.
Page 22
FORCE UNITS The FORCE UNITS parameter must be set before setting the FORCE APPLICATION parameter. The FORCE UNITS are pounds (lbs) or Newtons (N). Use the SELECT MODE button to select a specific FORCE UNIT. Use the INCREASE or DECREASE button to adjust the FORCE UNIT pressure.
Page 23
INCREASE button for two seconds. The LCD will display ON and water will be dispensed. DISPENSER The Vector Power Head can be used in combination with the PriMet 3000 and the PriMet Satellite Dispensing System. When a dispenser is connected to the Vector Power Head and is powered ON, the dispenser will automatically activate when the green START buttons are pressed.
8. Push the STOP button to raise the Vector Power Head. • Specimens can be inspected at this time. 9. When the cycle is complete, the Vector Power Head and platen will stop and the SINGLE FORCE fingers will retract. MA601990_20...
4. The Vector Power Head will automatically lower to a position and begin the grinding-polishing cycle. 5. Adjust the platen speed as needed. 6. When the cycle is complete, the Vector Power Head will stop and rise to its original position. MA601990_20 [Original Instructions]...
Maintenance The Vector Power Head will continue to perform at optimum levels with proper care, daily cleaning, and general maintenance. Replacing the Power Head Drive Belt WARNING Personal Injury. Disconnect the power supply before performing any maintenance or adjustments. 1. Remove the belt cover and top cover of the Vector Power Head.
